About FUSE Corps 

FUSE Corps is a national nonprofit that enables local government to more effectively address the most pressing challenges facing urban communities. In pursuit of this mission, FUSE runs an executive-level fellowship program in civic innovation that is focused on accelerating cross-sector collaboration and community-based problem solving. FUSE partners with city leaders to identify key strategic challenges and then recruits entrepreneurial professionals from the private sector who spend a year working in local government to address those challenges. FUSE fellows are uniquely positioned to achieve transformative impact across issues areas such as education, health, social services, economic development, public safety, and the environment.

Since FUSE was founded in the San Francisco Bay area five years ago, this unique program has grown quickly in response to mounting demand from cities across the country. The current cohort includes 35 projects in governments throughout California (San Francisco, Stockton, San José, Fremont, Long Beach, Los Angeles) and across the country (Denver, Indianapolis, New Orleans, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C.). The response from prospective fellows has been equally robust making the application process extremely competitive among private-sector executives seeking to serve in this prestigious program and have a different kind of impact in their communities. FUSE plans to continue to expand toward placing 100 fellows annually across 25 cities and widely communicating the impact of their work. This rapid growth is being generously supported by a coalition of foundations including the Omidyar Network, James Irvine Foundation and Kresge Foundation.

Position Description

FUSE is at an exciting stage in its organizational development – one that is characterized by a rapidly expanding program both in size and geographic diversity. As FUSE continues to grow – including opening a new office in Boston in early 2018 – the organization is seeking to hire a motivated, detail-oriented professional as its first Finance and Operations Associate. He/she will be responsible for coordinating and managing FUSE’s organizational systems and administrative functions related to finance, infrastructure, human resources, and technology. The Associate will gain valuable knowledge and experience related to all aspects of nonprofit management as well as exposure to local government operations in cities throughout the country. The Associate will work closely with and report directly to the Chief Operating Officer. Core responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:


  • Manage all internal financial processes and maintain financial records.
  • Continually evaluate and develop internal policies related to financial management.
  • Participate in formulation of annual budget through meetings and discussions with Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operating Officer, and other team members.
  • Serve as administrative contact and liaison with outsourced bookkeeping firm (eCratchit) as well as other vendors.
  • Administer contracting process with all vendors to ensure execution of contracts and timely payment of invoices.
  • Assist with annual contracting process for fellows and city partners.
  • Oversee document preparation and logistics for organization’s annual audit with outsourced accounting firm.


  • Manage information and submissions related to federal, state and local tax filings and business registrations.
  • Manage information and submissions related to organizational insurance policies.
  • Support the management and continuous development of the organization’s data management system (Salesforce) and document management system (DropBox).
  • Manage all aspects of office infrastructure and operations including office space leases and maintenance, supplies and materials, and technology, as well as any future searches for new office space that may be required and the associated process of moving offices if needed.
  • Serve as administrative contact and liaison with organization’s professional employment organization (TriNet) for all human resource-related matters.
  • Prepare documents (handouts, PowerPoint presentations, after-action summaries) for presentations and meetings including drafting, proofing, grammar editing, layout and style.
  • Support CEO and COO in day-to-day activities related to organizational and administrative needs such as scheduling meetings, supporting travel logistics, preparing expense reports, etc.
  • Support the CEO and COO in preparing materials for quarterly Board meetings and attend Board meetings in a confidential observer capacity to take meeting notes. Help prepare the minutes of each Board meeting and maintain informational files for the Board’s reference.
  • Oversee special projects as needed and collaborate with members of the broader FUSE team in other activities related to the overall achievement of organization-wide goals.
