Enhancing Park Services Through Grants
Availability and access to urban parks is important to the health and resilience of communities. To expand park and recreational space in underserved neighborhoods, the Los Angeles County Regional Parks and Open Space District is piloting a Technical Assistance Program to help these communities compete for new park funding. FUSE executive fellow Jack Sahl helped develop the program, which aims to achieve equitable access to parks and open space across the county. Jack is now completing the development of the program and beginning its implementation. He’ll conduct community outreach and engagement and work on other initiatives, such as addressing neighborhood gentrification and displacement. By helping communities learn how to compete for and receive grants, as well as acquire and develop parkland, the county is working to improve the quality of life for some of its most vulnerable residents.
