Improving Wraparound Services for Swift Re-entry
The Los Angeles County Probation Department seeks to strengthen support for people who have been incarcerated so that they can successfully re-enter their communities. To help advance this goal, FUSE executive fellow Jessica Aranoff worked with the Post Release Services Bureau to develop a plan that maximizes the impact of its programs and services. Jessica led a strategic planning process that culminated in a two-year proposal for increasing the bureau’s operational effectiveness and enhancing services for people under post-release supervision. To inform the plan, she identified best practices from re-entry programs around the country. Ideas include the creation of new communications tools, including an online employee survey and a forum that encourages information-sharing between leadership and staff. Jessica also worked with the bureau’s administrative team to streamline redundant systems and reduce red tape. By implementing these and other changes outlined in the proposal, the bureau can better focus its resources on programs and services that are most effective at reducing recidivism.
